When steel components are immersed in molten zinc, a solid solution between zinc and iron forms at the interface through dissolution and diffusion processes. As zinc continues to penetrate, it reacts with iron to form an intermetallic compound FeZn13, which settles at the pot bottom as zinc slag. Simultaneously, a pure zinc coating develops on the steel surface. Upon cooling and crystallization, this protective layer solidifies into a complete galvanized coating.
