63. How does nickel content in steel pipes and galvanized pot substrates affect hot-dip galvanizing?

Nickel (Ni), a gray metal with a cubic or hexagonal crystal structure, has a relative atomic mass of 58.69, melting point of 1455°C, and boiling point of approximately 2340°C. Regarding its impact on hot-dip galvanizing, differing experimental approaches among researchers have yielded conflicting conclusions. For instance, comparative tests between nickel-free low-carbon steel and 5% nickel-containing low-carbon steel at 460°C zinc bath temperature demonstrated a 30% reduction in corrosion rate for the latter. When nickel content reaches 8%, the galvanized layer thickness decreases, indicating that nickel element controls the development of the ζ phase.
