Current Status of the Steel Pipe Industry

As of 2019, China had approximately 3,000 sets of various welded pipe units with a total production capacity of about 90 million tons, with different specifications of production lines and varying capacity situations. In 2020, China's steel pipe output was 89.54 million tons, of which welded pipes accounted for 61.67 million tons and seamless pipes accounted for 27.87 million tons. Since 2004, China's steel pipe output has ranked first in the world, and after 2012, it has accounted for more than 50% of the world's total output. High-end products have broken the monopoly, with a self-sufficiency rate of over 99%. From 2010 to 2020, the industry has been optimized and improved in many aspects. After a period of stable and rapid development, the welded pipe industry entered a structural adjustment period in 2016. At present, China's steel pipe manufacturing industry has reached the world's first-class level in technology, techniques, and equipment, with globally leading production capacity.
