Development History of China's Steel Pipe Industry

1.Initial Stage (1920s-1950s)

The industry began in the 1920s, with the first seamless steel pipe rolling mill built in 1953.

Ansteel, as the cradle of the sector, introduced Soviet technology and trained professionals, laying the foundation for development.

2.Self-Reliant Development (1960s-1970s)

Domestically produced φ100mm tube rolling mills emerged, and high-frequency welding replaced manual welding.

Standardized designs drove nationwide adoption.

3.Post-Reform and Opening-Up Modernization

Advanced technologies like continuous rolling mills were introduced, bringing equipment up to international standards.

4.Global Leadership in the 21st Century

China became the world's largest producer and consumer of steel pipes, with output reaching nearly 80 million tons in 2013 (70% of global production).

In recent years, production has stabilized at around 50 million tons, primarily used in real estate, machinery, and energy sectors, with annual exports of about 9 million tons.

China's steel pipe industry has evolved from technology introduction to independent innovation and global dominance, supporting domestic infrastructure and export demand.
