Differences between Hot Galvanizing and Cold Galvanizing

1.Different Principles: Hot galvanizing involves immersing iron and steel components into molten zinc to obtain a metallic coating layer. On the other hand, cold galvanizing involves placing the processed iron and steel components into a zinc salt solution after degreasing and pickling. Then, by connecting the electrolytic equipment, a layer of zinc is deposited on the components through electrochemical principles.

2.Different Equipment Requirements: Hot galvanizing requires acid washing equipment, a bottom-drawing annealing furnace, or a bell-type annealing furnace. In contrast, cold galvanizing necessitates electrolytic equipment.

3.Different Properties and Advantages: Hot galvanizing is known for its long-lasting durability and corrosion resistance. Its standard rust-proof thickness ensures exceptional durability. Additionally, the galvanized layer forms a unique metallurgical structure that can withstand mechanical damage during transportation and use, demonstrating strong toughness. Cold galvanizing, on the other hand, excels in environmental performance. Most solvents and diluents used in cold galvanizing contain no highly toxic organic solvents, and the process itself reduces the volatilization of organic solvents and energy consumption during drying, contributing to environmental protection.

4.Different Applications: Due to its excellent corrosion resistance, hot galvanizing is widely used in various industries such as electric power transmission towers, communication towers, railway and highway protection, street lamp poles, marine structures, construction steel structural components, substation ancillary facilities, and light industries. Meanwhile, cold galvanizing represents the main development direction for heavy-duty anti-corrosion coatings in terms of environmental protection.
