Introduction to Three Methods of Connecting Spiral Steel Tubes

The connection methods of spiral steel tubes can be primarily divided into three categories:

1: Flange Connection:

Flange connection is generally fast, convenient for construction, and requires simple tools. However, in terms of safety and sealing performance, it cannot meet the requirements of most engineering projects. This type of connection is suitable for pipelines with low pressure and those that are frequently moved, such as mud drainage pipelines.

2: Groove Connection:

Also known as the clamp connection technology, it has become the preferred method for connecting liquid and gas pipelines. Although its development in China lags behind that of foreign countries, due to its technological advancement, it has been rapidly adopted by the domestic market. The application of groove fitting connection technology simplifies complex pipeline connection processes, making them quick, convenient, and efficient. This technology represents a significant advancement in pipeline connection methods.

Groove fittings include two major categories: ① fittings that serve the purpose of connection and sealing, including rigid joints, flexible joints, mechanical tees, and groove flanges; ② fittings that facilitate transitional connections, such as elbows, tees, crosses, reducing pipes, blind flanges, and spiral welded pipes. Groove fittings for connection and sealing primarily consist of three parts: a sealing rubber ring, a clamp, and locking bolts. The inner rubber sealing ring is placed on the outside of the pipes to be connected, fitting into the pre-rolled groove. The clamp is then placed over the rubber ring, and two bolts are tightened to secure it. Due to the unique sealing structure of the rubber sealing ring and clamp, groove fittings exhibit excellent sealing performance, which improves with increasing fluid pressure within the pipe.

3: Clamp Fitting Connection:

As an advanced pipeline connection method, it can be used for both exposed and buried installations, offering both rigid and flexible joints. This versatility makes it suitable for a wide range of applications, including fire protection water systems, HVAC hot and cold water systems, water supply systems, petrochemical piping systems, thermal power and military piping systems, and sewage treatment piping systems.

The connection characteristics of spiral steel tubes, particularly groove connections, simplify pipeline connection operations, enhancing construction safety, system stability, and ease of maintenance while saving time and labor, resulting in good economic benefits. Although individual clamp components may be more expensive, the overall installation cost-effectiveness of clamp connections surpasses that of flange connections.
