The reason for the initially faster corrosion rate of zinc coatings

The freshly hot-dip galvanized zinc coating has no protective layer covering its surface, which results in a relatively fast corrosion rate initially. However, once a layer of corrosion products forms, it protects the underlying zinc layer and acts as a protective film. Consequently, the subsequent corrosion rate of the zinc coating slows down significantly compared to the initial stage.
