Three Connection Methods of Spiral Steel Pipes

The connection methods of spiral steel pipes are mainly divided into three types.

1: Flange Connection:

Generally, flange connection is fast, convenient for construction, and requires simple tools. However, in terms of safety and sealing, it cannot meet the requirements of most engineering projects. This connection method is suitable for pipelines with low pressure and pipes that are frequently moved, such as mud drainage pipes.

2: Groove Connection:

Also known as clamp connection technology, it has become the preferred technology for connecting liquid and gas pipelines. Although the development of this technology in China lags behind that of foreign countries, due to its advanced technology, it has been quickly adopted by the domestic market. The application of grooved pipe fittings connection technology simplifies complex pipe connection procedures, making them faster and more convenient. This represents a significant step forward in pipe connection technology.

Grooved pipe fittings include two major categories:

① Pipe fittings that serve connection and sealing functions include rigid joints, flexible joints, mechanical tees, and grooved flanges.

② Pipe fittings that serve connection and transition functions include elbows, tees, crosses, reducers, blind flanges, and spiral welded pipes. The grooved pipe fittings for connection and sealing primarily consist of three parts: sealing rubber rings, clamps, and locking bolts. The inner rubber sealing ring is placed on the outside of the connecting pipe and fits into the pre-rolled groove. Then, a clamp is fastened over the rubber ring, and two bolts are tightened to secure it. Due to the unique sealable structural design of the rubber sealing ring and clamp, the grooved fittings exhibit excellent sealing performance, which improves as the fluid pressure inside the pipe increases.

3: Clamp Pipe Fitting Connection:

As an advanced pipe connection method, it can be used for both exposed and buried installations, with both rigid and flexible joints. Therefore, it has a wide range of applications. It can be used in fire water systems, chilled and hot water air conditioning systems, water supply systems, petrochemical piping systems, thermoelectric and military piping systems, sewage treatment piping systems, etc.

The connection characteristics of spiral steel pipes, specifically groove connections, simplify pipe connection operations, facilitating safe construction, ensuring good system stability, and providing easy maintenance. This method saves time and labor, resulting in significant economic benefits. Although individual clamp fittings are more expensive, the overall installation efficiency of the entire pipe network is higher than that of flange connections.
