What is metal corrosion?

Metal corrosion refers to the damage phenomenon caused by the chemical or electrochemical interaction between metal and its surrounding medium. Rusting is one of the most common forms of metal corrosion. Based on the characteristics of the corrosion process, it can be divided into chemical corrosion and electrochemical corrosion; according to the characteristics of the medium, it can be classified as atmospheric corrosion and soil corrosion, etc. Furthermore, based on the characteristics of the damage, it can be categorized as continuous corrosion and localized corrosion, etc.
