Zinc chloride

Zinc chloride (ZnCl₂) appears as white powder or granular crystals with a melting point of 283°C and a boiling point of 723°C. It can absorb moisture from the air and become deliquescent. It is soluble in water and decomposes to produce a white precipitate of zinc hydroxide when mixed with water. Due to its ability to dissolve metal oxides at high temperatures, it is used as a solvent. In the hot-dip galvanizing process, it is generally used in mixture with ammonium chloride.
