(1) If the "white rust" appears white, first wash it off in water, then dry the zinc layer with a cloth. Apply a paste made by mixing talcum powder and sodium hydroxide with a brush. (2) If the "white rust" has turned grayish, use an acidic potassium tartrate and ammonium carbonate solution to brush the affected area. Remove the corrosion with a sponge soaked in calcium carbonate, then rinse and dry thoroughly.
