What is the skin effect?

When an alternating current flows through a conductor, the current distribution on the cross-section of the conductor is uneven, with the current density gradually increasing from the center of the conductor to the surface. This is a physical phenomenon where most of the current flows only along the surface of the conductor. During high-frequency welding, the high-frequency current passes through the surface of the weldment, rapidly heating the surface layer of the weldment.
